Building Effective Food Donation Programs

A workshop for processors and manufacturers

WORKSHOPS

Food processor and manufacturers interested in learning more about implementing or expanding successful food donation programs, were invited to participate in this workshop to address their unique concerns, specific needs, and receive guidance.

More than a third of food produced and distributed in Canada never gets eaten, with significant environmental, economic and social consequences. About 20% of this waste occurs at the point of processing and packaging. Successful food donation programs are a tool that can help offset this waste of food, benefiting Canadian communities as well as businesses.

Building Effective Food Donation Programs – A workshop for processors and manufacturers, hosted by the National Zero Waste Council, in collaboration with Provision Coalition, brought together expertise from industry, food rescue, and environmental health. The workshops provided participants with food safety and liability information, directions on how to address operation and logistical concerns, and recommendations on how to build strong donor-recipient relationships.
